Referring to wikipedia, the Viennese Waltz is a rotary dance where the dancers are constantly turning either in a clockwise (natural) or anti-clockwise (reverse) direction. In business, the Viennese Waltz is performed too. Often. Way to often.
People keep going round in circles. In projects. Meetings. Discussions. They keep doing or talking about the same stuff for hours and days without coming any further. Without any progress. Without achieving anything. Just turning back to the same subjects and problem. In circles. They do a Viennese Waltz. Sometime even solo.
Therefor rule #58: Break the waltz. Stop going in circles.
Break into discussions, when the same arguments are used on and on again. Point out – more or less friendly – when meeting attendees come back to the same subjects and problems again. Move on during brainstormings when there aren’t any new ideas presented. Break the waltz.
