#34: Never get personal

One of the best signs and characteristics of brilliant business women/ men is, that these people never get personal in arguments or debates. They never attack others personally. They would never use an “argumentum ad hominem; meaning they would never make an argument  personally against an opponent instead of against their argument. Why’s that? They just don’t have to – they are professional.

Brilliant business women/ men have their facts read. They know what they talk about. They have relevant skills, knowledge and experience. Their aim is not to win in an argument. They argue and are open minded to achieve something –  either it’s just information sharing, identifying challenges, finding solutions or discussing extraordinary ideas. But they never get personal about others, no matter how sensitive or important the topic is.

Rule #34 is a lesson every consultant should learn: Never get personal in arguments or debates.
