Being stuck in a dangerous, life-threating or hopeless situation, in an action movie one would just wait for a hero who would save you. Sly Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger or Jean Claude Van Damme would come out of nowhere, risk their lives while struggling against incredible odds, fight against all evil, beat the hell out of any villain, rescue you and save the world – without demanding any reward.
However, in real life, both private and business, waiting for a superman is not always an option and you have to apply rule #21: Be your own hero.
Now and then, you’re stuck in a sticky situation. A project leader who lost control. A management who refuses to make decisions. A customer who’s not able to define and prioritize requirements. Team members who do not perform. A supplier who does not deliver as agreed. Waiting for Stallone, Schwarzenegger or Van Damme does not really solve the problem.
As long as you keep waiting, things will remain the same. Stop waiting. Stop hoping. Stop complaining. Don’t fear. Take control. Make decisions. Take action. Fight and try for real.
Remember the words from Christopher Reeve, the American actor who portrayed Superman: “A hero is someone who, in spite of weakness, doubt or not always knowing the answers, goes ahead and overcomes anyway.”
